Prevention of illness/injury and protection from work related and environmental hazards. Evaluations and treatment of on-the-job injuries, providing counseling, health and wellness education, lab testing, and immunization services to help provide Parkland with a healthy work force capable of discharging their duties.<br><br><b>Minimum Specifications</b><br><b>Education</b><br>- Must have an Associate Degree in Nursing<br><br><b>Experience</b><br><ul><li>Must have four years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational/employee health.</li><li>Emergency Room, critical care, community health or ambulatory care experience preferred.</li></ul><br><b>Equivalent Education and/or Experience</b><br><br><b>Certification/Registration/Licensure</b><br><br><b> *Please Note: All certification cards must provide an expiration date. The expiration date must be more than 30 days from date of hire. Completion of course certificates will not substitute this requirement. </b><br><ul><li>Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or valid Compact RN license.</li><li>Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network.</li></ul><br><b>Required Tests for Placement</b><br>Skills or Special Abilities<br><ul><li>Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nursing Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.</li><li>Must be able to collect routine or difficult blood samples by venipuncture or capillary techniques on patients of all age groups.</li><li>Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Must demonstrate proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook.</li><li>Must be well organized and detail oriented.</li><li>Must demonstrate ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor while under pressure and stress.</li><li>Must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and multiple tasks simultaneously including instructing and counseling customers.</li><li>Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment.</li><li>Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize</li></ul><br><b>Responsibilities</b><br><ul><li>Plans, develops, recommends, promotes and implements cost-effective occupational health programs for Parkland and its staff to help ensure a healthy work force capable of discharging their duties. Recommends programs that support positive lifestyle changes and individual efforts to lower risk of disease and injury, and an environment that provides a sense of balance among work, family, personal, health and psychosocial concerns.</li><li>Routinely coordinates and triages the care of ill and injured workers. Coordinates and manages work-related and non-work-related exposures and illnesses, which includes aspects related to group health, workers' compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and disability benefits.</li><li>Performs bloodwork, Tuberculosis screening, and vaccinations to provide Parkland employees with the services needed to support health objectives and requirements.</li><li>Treat minor on-the-job injuries, including needlesticks, blood/body fluid exposures etc., to help manage the health maintenance of Parkland employees. Reviews, recommends, and performs follow-up protocol for positive test results by notifying the employees, Infection Control, and Healthcare associates to ensure Parkland compliance with regulatory agency requirements.</li><li>Counsels' employees on work related illnesses and injuries, issues such as substance abuse, psychosocial needs, wellness/health promotion concerns and other health or work-related concerns. Makes referrals to the employee assistance program and/or other community resources and coordinates follow-up as applicable.</li><li>Collects, compiles, reports, maintains and distributes health data to ensure Parkland compliance with regulatory requirements, and provides related entities with the information needed to evaluate and respond to employee health issues.</li><li>Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Occupational Health and Parkland.</li><li>Participates in health-related programs and fairs for Parkland employees to promote health and wellness, injury/illness prevention, and ensure Parkland staff are kept informed about vaccination and exposure protocols.</li><li>Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Occupational Health department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Recommends and implements policies, procedures and protocols covering the delivery of employee healthcare to ensure that Parkland maintains a healthy workforce. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Maintains State of Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, plus any additional required licensures/certifications.</li><li>Maintains knowledge of the latest developments, advancements and trends specific to occupational and environmental nursing, and to the healthcare field overall.
